In the SAP system, the shipment document is used to map the shipment
of goods to the ship-to party. This chapter will present the structure and
creation of shipment documents and the basic principles of various functions,
such as partner determination, texts, and routes.
12 Shipment
Shipment documents are sales documents that map the shipment of materials to
one or more ship-to parties. Until now, only delivery documents that form the
basis for certain activities resulting in the loading of ordered materials were presented.
However, a delivery document does not always constitute a physical transport
— in many cases several delivery documents are handled in one shipment.
The first part of this chapter describes the structure of shipment documents and
explains the creation options provided by the SAP system. You will get to know
the different shipment types (for example, preliminary, main, subsequent, and
direct leg as well as sea freight, air freight, and so on) and how you can map them
in your system.
In shipment documents, deadlines are maintained and traced. This chapter explains
the individual deadlines and their determination. Like in delivery documents, you
can also enter partners and texts. How this is implemented and which Customizing
entries must be made is described in this chapter as well.
Finally, this chapter addresses the influence of routes on the creation and implementation
of shipments and presents the interface required for working with an
external transportation planning system.
12.1 Shipment Documents
Shipment documents, which are also referred to as shipment in the SAP system,
are used to determine data relating to transfer as well as to plan and monitor shipments.
One or more delivery documents are assigned to the shipment.
