These three options can be used to create shipment documents. To enable an optimal
combination of delivery documents for shipments, the delivery documents
must be specified as precisely as possible and selected respectively.
12.3 Selecting the Delivery Documents
Selecting the delivery documents that you want to group in shipments is absolutely
essential for the optimum utilization of your shipments. But there are also
special processing procedures that often require special handling and transportation
planning. This includes, for example, transportation of hazardous goods, thermal
shipments (shipments with temperature-controlled trucks), or cases in which
the customer ordered a full truck load.
To mark these processes and select them retroactively, SAP software provides various
features in the delivery documents. Some of these features are already set during
sales order entry.
An important feature to classify deliveries is the means of transport type. In the
sales order, you already determine the means of transport for the shipment. This
feature is not further specified, but relates to the highest level for means of transport.
Typical means of transport types would be, for example, trucks, ships, or
airplanes (see Figure 12.24).
The means of transport types cannot be specified in the SAP standard via master
data or other Customizing settings. You either enter your information manually,
or program a small routine in the user exit during entry of the sales order or the
delivery document if you want to make use of this field and define your own
determination strategy.
