9 Dangerous Goods Management The second part dealt with dangerous goods checks. The primary intention was to show you how to find the correct dangerous goods master data and which prerequisites you must provide in the process to find and use the correct and valid dangerous goods regulation. The standard SAP system simply provides examples here that you can copy to develop your own dangerous goods checks. The last part briefly covered the printing of dangerous goods data. At one time or another in every subprocess, it is necessary to print information, such as labels for handling units, delivery notes, and packing lists. This chapter describes the settings you need to make in the system to enable printing, and explains how you can create and manage your printouts. 10 Shipping Papers and Documents Printouts are required to complete individual tasks throughout the entire process chain. Paperless picking and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) document transfer notwithstanding, statutory requirements sometimes make it necessary to print documents and papers. In the case of dangerous goods, for example, the carrier has to have an exact declaration of the materials he is to carry. Printed documents are also required for customs processing purposes in the case of export transactions outside the European Union (EU). Pallets are another example; even though the relevant data is transferred to the goods recipient by EDI, pallets still have to have a label that uniquely identifies each one. In the SAP system, a document (such as a delivery note or an export declaration) is referred to as output. This chapter also uses the term output and avoids the terms printout and document as much as possible. SAP software opted to use output because the documents in question are not only printed, but are also transferred in the form of EDI messages. EDI output has its own format, but is created by means of the output determination function. The output control function is based on the condition technique in sales and is the same for all messages. The sole exception is the printing process for pick lists, which was dealt with in Chapter 7, Picking. The basis of output is the delivery document, the group, or the handling unit. There is a separate output control process for each of these three objects. The first part of this chapter will look at the relevant Customizing settings in detail. Then, you will learn how to handle the output in the delivery document; in other words, how to create it manually, how to print it if required, how to send it, and how to repeat it.
