rights initiatives in sports with the examples of human rights of athletes and
children participations in sport.
19 The Brighton Declaration was campaigned globally by the International
Working Group on Women and Sport (IWGWS) with the attendance of more
than 200 organizations in 1994. The Second World Conference on Women and
Sport followed in 1998 in Namibia with 400 delegates from over 70 countries
and emanated Brighton Declaration at the Conference together with ‘Windhoek
Call for Action’. The Call for Action has the aim ‘to address inequalities and
enhance women’s development through sport and physical activities’. It has also
acknowledged the importance to coordinate with national and international sport
organizations, governments, public authorities and educational research
institutions and other sport-related sectors. By looking at some nation-states
adopted and endorsed the Brighton Declaration and the success of the First
Asian Congress on Women and Sport organized in Osaka in 2000, the
governmentality of private sport active groups can be interacted with both sport
NGOs and INGOs (see www.wsf.org.uk/).
