(c). The values of all religious bodies should influence activity<br />

structuring and accessibility.<br />

(d). The National Orientation Agency should massively educate<br />

the public, stressing the values of sports participation as a<br />

weapon of positive change in societal attitude.<br />

(e). There should be more female administrators in the<br />

formulation and implementation of sport policies and goal.<br />

(f). A documentary on lives of successful female athletes should<br />

be packaged and relayed by the mass media to propagate<br />

women’s participation in sports.<br />

(g). There should be an increase in the admission quota of<br />

women in departments of Human Kinetics, Sport Science<br />

and Physical Education for the production of more female<br />

coaches, tutors, journalists, psychologists and physiologists.<br />

(h). All international sporting bodies should evolve a policy of<br />

having a 50% women representation out of their gross<br />

participants (for periodic review) to assist nations in<br />

promoting and enhancing women participation in sports.<br />

CONCLUSION<br />

The successful implementation of the above suggestions will bring<br />

to a fulfilment in Nigeria the Article 2 paragraph 5 of the Olympic<br />

charter which states ‘THE IOC STRONGLY ENCOURAGES BY<br />

APPROPRIATE MEANS, THE PROMOTION OF WOMEN IN SPORT<br />

AT ALL LEVELS AND IN ALL STRUCTURES, PARTICULARLY IN<br />

THE EXECUTIVE BODIES OF NATIONAL AND <strong>INTERNATIONAL</strong><br />

SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS WITH A VIEW TO STRICT APPLICATION<br />

OF THE PRINCIPLE OF EQUALITY BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN’<br />

(Mascagni Stivachtis, 2000).<br />
