During the period 1973-1990, Nicaraguan women’s participation<br />

in these Games was timid. It was mainly focused on Athletics,<br />

Volleyball, Swimming, and Softball. Logically, the women’s<br />

contribution to Nicaragua’s table of medals was as low as 12%<br />

(average) in this period. Therefore, the Nicaraguan Olympic<br />

Movement made tremendous efforts to encourage women’s<br />

participation in more sports. As a result, in San Salvador, in 1994,<br />

Nicaraguan women’s contribution increased up to 26%. That year,
