CFD will not replace the physical experiments for <strong>air</strong>flow <strong>and</strong> heat transfer in the HVAC&R industry<br />

completely; however, it will significantly reduce the physical experiments to study the <strong>air</strong>flow<br />

patterns <strong>and</strong> the space diffusion effectiveness factor <strong>of</strong> various space <strong>air</strong> diffusion systems, the removal<br />

<strong>of</strong> contaminants in clean rooms, <strong>and</strong> the effectiveness <strong>of</strong> the introduction <strong>of</strong> outdoor <strong>air</strong> to<br />

the occupied zone.<br />

Baker et al. (1997) asked, How accurate can CFD be? This depends on the form <strong>of</strong> Reynolds-averaged<br />

Navier-Stokes partial differential (ReNSPD) equations selected as well as the boundary conditions.<br />

Therefore, a range <strong>of</strong> CFD simulations or CFD experiments must be conducted to verify solution<br />

sensitivity to model parameters <strong>and</strong> boundary conditions embedded in the selected ReNSPD<br />

equations <strong>and</strong> their numerical method calculation.<br />
