Plaorm of the 'Coordinang Commiee forWorkers Protests in Serbia'September 25, 2009.The lawlessness and corruption that has characterised theprivati<strong>za</strong>tion process has brought our enterprises, and theentirety of Serbia's industry into a dead-end situation. Theirresponsible and illegitimate atttitude of the new owners,and the corruption within government organs responsiblefor overseeing privati<strong>za</strong>tion laws and agreements, are threateningour survival and the survival of hundreds of thousandsof working families in Serbia. The world economic crisisis only an excuse for the position we find ourselves in today.The real reason for eliminating jobs, which to us are the equivalentof our lives, lies in the plunder over the past 20 yearsof an industrial capacity that the workers in Serbia built overthe course of decades. Now this industry is being destroyedso that the new owners of these enterprises can launder money,or so that they can seize inexpensive land for new developmentand construction projects or to rent out the premisesas prime business real-estate.We the workers of 'Zastava Elektro, 'Srbolek,' 'Šinvoz,' 'Ravanica','Trudbenik Gradnja' and BEK, are struggling to keep our jobs, and tolive in a land where the law will apply to all.Our problems cannot be solved through the measures proposed bythe government's 'Working Group for Overcoming Problems and Realizingthe Rights of the Employed in the Context of Economic Crisis'.Linking ones years of service to benefits and one-off monetary contributionsaren't adequate measures for the maintenance of workplacesthat are being extinguished as a result of theft and corruption.FOR THIS REASON WE DEMAND THAT THE GOVERNMENTIMMEDIATELY UNDERTAKE MEASURES TO HALT LAWLESS-NESS IN THE PRIVATIZATION OF OUR ENTERPRISES, SINCETHIS IS THE ONLY WAY, OVER THE LONGTERM, TO PRESERVETHE PRODUCTIVE CAPACITIES FROM WHICH WE ALL LIVE.The local government's of Zrenjanin, Rača, Novi Pa<strong>za</strong>r, and Ćuprijahave all, in their own ways, committed themselves to supporting thestruggle for the revival of our enterprises.
