among <strong>the</strong> national minorities” and <strong>of</strong> “undermining soviet power in <strong>the</strong><br />

village”. He was cast into Samara Domzak. He pleaded not guilty and was<br />

released. Nothing more is known about him.<br />

Mat<strong>the</strong>w Yemelyanovich Ichin. A Mordvinian, he was born on August 1,<br />

1900 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Sololeika, Buguruslan uyezd, Samara province into a<br />

peasant family. He was married, with three sons and a daughter, and was<br />

warden <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> local church. On May 13, 1931 he was arrested, cast into Samara<br />

Domzak, and sentenced in accordance with articles 58-10, 58-11 and 59-2 to<br />

five years in <strong>the</strong> camps. He was arrested again on July 23, 1937, and on<br />

September 4 was sentenced to death for being “a participant in an armed<br />

bandit group”. He was shot on <strong>the</strong> same day in Zauralskaya Rosha,<br />

Orenburg.<br />

Melania Konstantinovna Inchina. A Mordvinian, she was born in January,<br />

1896 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Kamyshlinka, Buguruslan uyezd, Samara province into<br />

<strong>the</strong> family <strong>of</strong> a trader. For several months she worked in <strong>the</strong> church as a<br />

prosphora-baker. She was not married, and worked in <strong>the</strong> fields. In 1929-1930<br />

she worked as a nanny in Boriskin hospital. On May 1, 1931 she was arrested<br />

and cast into Samara Domzak. On September 8 she was convicted <strong>of</strong> being “a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> a counter-revolutionary religious cell among <strong>the</strong> national<br />

minorities” and <strong>of</strong> “undermining <strong>the</strong> enterprises <strong>of</strong> Soviet power in <strong>the</strong><br />

village”. In accordance with articles 58-10, 58-11 and 59-2, she was sentenced<br />

to three years in <strong>the</strong> camps. Nothing more is known about her.<br />

Eudocia Yefimovna Sevastyanova was born in August, 1866 in <strong>the</strong> village<br />

<strong>of</strong> Staroye Boriskino, Buguruslan uyezd, Samara province. She was <strong>the</strong> wife<br />

<strong>of</strong> a trader in wheat and cattle, and had two sons and a daughter. On May 2,<br />

1931 she was arrested in her native village and cast into <strong>the</strong> Domzak in<br />

Samara. In accordance with articles 58-10, 58-11 and 59-2, she was sentenced<br />

to three years’ exile in <strong>the</strong> north. Nothing more is known about her.<br />

It is known that on November 20, 1935 Bishop Habbakuk was in <strong>the</strong> camps<br />

on <strong>the</strong> White Sea-Baltic canal, Karelia.<br />

On September 20, 1937 he was condemned by <strong>the</strong> UNKVD, and in<br />

accordance with articles 58-10, 58-11 and 59-2 was sentenced to death. On<br />

October 15, 1937 at 12.30 a.m. he was shot in Karelia.<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r priest <strong>of</strong> Bishop Habbakuk was Hieromonk Metrophanes, in <strong>the</strong><br />

world Michael Vasilyevich Vasilyev. He was born in 1876 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Tipnery, Cheboksari uyezd. He finished four classes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> village school,<br />

worked on <strong>the</strong> land, and in 1904 entered as a novice <strong>the</strong> Hodigitria monastery<br />
