Archimandrite Athanasius (Alexis Antonovich Mukhachev) was born in<br />

1873 in Mukhachev settlement, Orlov uyezd, and became superior <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Yaransk Znamensko-Mariinsky monastery in <strong>the</strong> rank <strong>of</strong> archimandrite. At<br />

<strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> 1929 he was arrested for being “a participant in <strong>the</strong> Vyatka<br />

branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> counter-revolutionary monarchist church organization, <strong>the</strong> True<br />

<strong>Orthodox</strong> Church”, and on May 10 was sentenced to ten years in <strong>the</strong> camps<br />

and sent to a camp. Nothing more is known about him.<br />

Priest Nicholas Vsevolodovich Lopatin was born in 1877 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Velikoretskoye, Khalturino region, Vyatka province. In 1926 he began to serve<br />

as a priest in Kukarka sloboda (<strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Sovyetsk) in Vyatka province. In<br />

<strong>the</strong> autumn he was arrested for “agitation against Soviet power”, and on<br />

December 17 was sentenced, in accordance with articles 58-13, 69 and 72 to<br />

three years’ exile in Zyryansk region (Sysolsk uyezd). His sentence was due to<br />

end on August 8, 1929, but on July 12, 1929 he was again sentenced, in<br />

accordance with articles 69 and 72, to three years’ deprivation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> right to<br />

live in <strong>the</strong> central cities and provinces <strong>of</strong> Russia. On December 23 he was<br />

released, but restricted to living in one place for three years. Nothing more is<br />

known about him.<br />

Priest Constantine Karpovich Mokhov was born in 1879 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Vozhdovo, Vyatka province. He was arrested in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Bakhily,<br />

Sarapul region, Udmurtia, and on September 20, 1929 was sentenced to three<br />

years’ exile in Siberia.<br />

Priest Alexis Petrovich Polushin was born in 1891 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Kodachigi, Yaransk uyezd, Vyatka province. On May 10, 1929 he was<br />

condemned by <strong>the</strong> OGPU in accordance with article 58-10 to three years’ exile<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Urals. Nothing more is known about him.<br />

Nun Nadezhda, in <strong>the</strong> world Nadezhda Ivanovna Korotkova, lived in a<br />

monastery in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Medyany, Nizhni-Novgorod province. After <strong>the</strong><br />

destruction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> monastery she went to live in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Kamenki, where<br />

she was arrested at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1920s. Having spent eight or nine years in<br />

prison, she died in <strong>the</strong> arms <strong>of</strong> her fellow-prisoner, Anastasia, who was also<br />

from Medyany. Anastasia and <strong>the</strong> guards heard angelic singing at her death.<br />
