December 3 he was sentenced, in accordance with articles 58-10 and 58-11, to<br />

ten years’ exile in Siberia with confiscation <strong>of</strong> his property.<br />

James Sergeyevich Rozhentsov was born in 1869 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Nolinskoye, Ufa canton, Ufa province into a peasant family. He had a family<br />

<strong>of</strong> five people. He was accused he was arrested and condemned. The<br />

indictment said that this group <strong>of</strong> churchmen “at underground sessions<br />

discussed plans for an uprising planned for <strong>the</strong> spring <strong>of</strong> this year”. On<br />

December 3, 1930 he was sentenced to death in accordance with article 58-10<br />

part 2 and 58-13.<br />

James Lavrentyevich Berestov. He was born in 1878 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Nolinskoye, Ufa uyezd, Ufa province. He was a kulak and had a family <strong>of</strong><br />

seven people. He was disenfranchised and dekulakised. On April 15, 1930 he<br />

was arrested, and on December 3 was sentenced in accordance with articles<br />

58-10 part 2 and 58-13 to ten years in <strong>the</strong> camps, commuted to ten years’ exile<br />

in <strong>the</strong> north with confiscation <strong>of</strong> his property, with a labour norm for <strong>the</strong> rest<br />

<strong>of</strong> his family. Nothing more is known about him.<br />

Priest Timothy Porfiryevich Strelkov was born on January 15, 1880 in <strong>the</strong><br />

village <strong>of</strong> Atyazhkino, Pomayevskaya volost, Buinsky uyezd, Simbirsk<br />

province, in a Mordovian peasant family. He went to a village and a city<br />

school, and <strong>the</strong>n to Simbirsk pedagogical seminary. Then he was sent as a<br />

teacher to <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Mikhailovka, twelve kilometres from <strong>the</strong> regional<br />

centre <strong>of</strong> Duvan, Bashkiria. He married Nadezhda Ionovna, and became a<br />

priest in <strong>the</strong> village. He had four sons and one daughter.<br />

Fr. Timothy was <strong>the</strong> younger bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r priest, Fa<strong>the</strong>r Theodore<br />

Strelkov, who had been president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> local section <strong>of</strong> “The Union <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Russian People” before <strong>the</strong> revolution and <strong>the</strong>n left with <strong>the</strong> armies <strong>of</strong><br />

Admiral Kolchak to <strong>the</strong> East, to Harbin, where he died. In 1919 Fr. Timothy<br />

also left with <strong>the</strong> White armies, and went to Omsk.<br />

Before that, however, according to Schema-Monk Epiphanius (Chernov),<br />

<strong>the</strong> following great miracle took place:<br />

“In <strong>the</strong> summer <strong>of</strong> 1918, as living witnesses <strong>of</strong> this very great wonder<br />

relate, this outstanding priest, Fr. Timothy, was arrested by <strong>the</strong> reds on <strong>the</strong><br />

eve <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Holy Trinity. On <strong>the</strong> same day <strong>the</strong>y sentenced him to<br />

death as a fearless confessor <strong>of</strong> Christ. In <strong>the</strong> night <strong>of</strong> Trinity <strong>the</strong>y led him on<br />

foot out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Mikhailovka, under mounted guard, in <strong>the</strong> direction<br />

<strong>of</strong> Duvan. A large crowd <strong>of</strong> people accompanied <strong>the</strong>ir beloved pastor. In this<br />

crowd <strong>the</strong>re were also representatives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> "<strong>new</strong> authorities". Some<br />

mourned and wept, but o<strong>the</strong>rs rejoiced and celebrated... In spite <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late<br />
