various terms <strong>of</strong> punishment. Fr. Basil refused to accept any guilt, he said that<br />

he had formed no anti-Soviet organization, and that <strong>the</strong> community <strong>of</strong> 150<br />

people which he had formed pursued purely religious ends.<br />

Also convicted in this case were:<br />

Monk Theodore Yegorovich Novikov. He was born in 1900 in <strong>the</strong> village<br />

<strong>of</strong> Belozerki, Kashirinsky region, Orenburg district into a peasant family. From<br />

1919 to 1921 he served in <strong>the</strong> Red Army, and from 1921 to 1922 – in <strong>the</strong> armies<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> OGPU in Turkestan. He had a wife, Eudocia Vasilyevna. In 1928 he was<br />

made a monk by Fr. Basil (Kudryukov) in <strong>the</strong> church on Mayak, Orenburg. On<br />

November 30, 1930 he was arrested and cast into Orenburg Domzak. He “was<br />

an active supporter <strong>of</strong> Fr. Basil Kudryukov”. He was sentenced in accordance<br />

with articles 58-10, 58-11 and 59-7 to three years in <strong>the</strong> camps conditionally.<br />

Nothing more is known about him.<br />

Nun Sylvestra, in <strong>the</strong> world Darya Prok<strong>of</strong>yevna Kurdyukova. She was<br />

born in March, 1880 in Bogorodsk, Moscow province, or <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Bogorodskoye, Kashirinsky uyezd into a merchant’s family. She was <strong>the</strong> wife<br />

<strong>of</strong> Priest Moses Kudryukov and had three or four children. In 1923 she went to<br />

live in Orenburg. In 1926 she was made a nun by her husband. Fr. Basil and<br />

his matushka were followers <strong>of</strong> Bishop Demetrius (Lyubimov) <strong>of</strong> Gdov. She<br />

was arrested toge<strong>the</strong>r with her daughter Natalya by <strong>the</strong> OGPU on January 3,<br />

1931 and was cast into Orenburg Domzak. On March 26, 1931 she was<br />

condemned for “leadership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kudryukov part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Orenburg city<br />

counter-revolutionary church organization, ‘The Trues’”. In accordance with<br />

articles 58-11 (counter-revolutionary organizational activity) and 59-7<br />

(agitation <strong>of</strong> a revolutionary nature), she was sentenced to be shot. The<br />

sentence was carried out on April 5, 1931 at 4.25 a.m.<br />

F.P. Tuchin and K.A. Nasekin. They lived in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Nizhne-<br />

Arkhangelskoye, Orenburg region. They went to services in <strong>the</strong> house <strong>of</strong> Fr.<br />

Basil Kudryukov. They were arrested in 1929, and on April 19, 1930 were<br />

convicted <strong>of</strong> “participation in <strong>the</strong> Nizhne-Arkhangelskoye group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> anti-<br />

Soviet organization under <strong>the</strong> leadership <strong>of</strong> Priest Kudryukov”. They were<br />

sentenced to a term in <strong>the</strong> camps. Nothing more is known about <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

Mat<strong>the</strong>w Yegorovich Nikulochkin. He was a peasant from Orlovsky<br />

khutor, Sharlyksky region. He was arrested in 1929 or 1930 by <strong>the</strong> Orenburg<br />

OGPU, convicted in accordance with article 58-10 <strong>of</strong> “participation in <strong>the</strong><br />

Kurkyukov sect” and sentenced to three years’ exile to Arkhangelsk province.<br />

Nothing more is known about him.<br />

His son, Stepan Matveyevich Nikulochkin, was born on December 26,<br />

1899 in Orlovsky khutor. He finished two classes in <strong>the</strong> village school. He<br />

served for two years in <strong>the</strong> Red Army, from 1919 to 1921. He had a wife:<br />
