Priest Alexis Pobedonostev served in a church in Kazan. At <strong>the</strong> beginning<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1930s he was arrested in a group case, sentenced to death and shot.<br />

Priest Michael Samsonovich Bespalov. He was born in 1866 in Kazan in<br />

<strong>the</strong> family <strong>of</strong> a priest, and went to a <strong>the</strong>ological seminary. In 1886 he was<br />

ordained and became <strong>the</strong> priest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church in Volchya sloboda. In 1901 he<br />

finished missionary courses. In January, 1930, after <strong>the</strong> closure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church,<br />

he was arrested for being “a fervent Tikhonite”, and was accused <strong>of</strong><br />

“organizing a secret meeting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church council with regard to <strong>the</strong> closing<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church” and <strong>of</strong> “collecting signature to a declaration to <strong>the</strong> region<br />

soviet”. On February 24, 1930 he was sentenced to death with confiscation <strong>of</strong><br />

his property and <strong>the</strong> exile <strong>of</strong> his family to <strong>the</strong> north. On May 6 he was shot.<br />

Nicholas Dmitrievich Bezhentsev. He was born in 1875 in Volchya<br />

Sloboda, Nizhne-Sheshminsk volost, Chistopol canton into a peasant family,<br />

and received an elementary education. He was disenfranchised and a member<br />

<strong>of</strong> a church council. In January, 1930 he was arrested for being “a participant<br />

in illegal meetings where questions were allowed concerning <strong>the</strong> means and<br />

methods <strong>of</strong> struggle against various campaigns, in particular <strong>the</strong> closing <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> church and <strong>the</strong> building <strong>of</strong> collective farms”. On February 24 he was<br />

sentenced to five years in <strong>the</strong> camps with confiscation <strong>of</strong> property. Nothing<br />

more is known about him.<br />

Ivan Ephremovich Ostolopov was born in 1882 in Volchya Sloboda,<br />

Nizhne-Sheshminsk volost, Chistopol canton into a peasant family, and<br />

received an elementary education. In 1915 he was called up into <strong>the</strong> army,<br />

and served as a private. From January, 1917 he was serving in <strong>the</strong> police, and<br />

from May was working as treasurer in a savings bank. From 1919 he was<br />

working in <strong>the</strong> fields. In January, 1930 he was arrested for being “a participant<br />

in illegal meetings where questions were allowed concerning <strong>the</strong> means and<br />

methods <strong>of</strong> struggle against various campaigns, in particular <strong>the</strong> closing <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> church and <strong>the</strong> building <strong>of</strong> collective farms”. On February 24 he was<br />

Adrian Yakovlevich Lobashev was born in 1895 in Volchya sloboda,<br />

Nizhne-Sheshminsk volost, Chistopol canton into a peasant family. He<br />

worked in <strong>the</strong> fields and was president <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church council. He was<br />

disenfranchised. After <strong>the</strong> closure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church he ga<strong>the</strong>red between 200 and<br />

300 signatures <strong>of</strong> believers on a petition to <strong>the</strong> Tataria ispolkom that “<strong>the</strong><br />

church was closed incorrectly, ince <strong>the</strong>re was no decision <strong>of</strong> a common<br />

meeting, and <strong>the</strong> village soviet closed <strong>the</strong> church in accordance with a decree<br />

that was against <strong>the</strong> will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> citizens”. In January, 1930 he was arrested for<br />

being “<strong>the</strong> organizer <strong>of</strong> illegal meeting in which were decided questions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
