his guilt and was shot on some day in September, 1937.<br />

Priest Ephraim Mikhailovich Kurdyukov. He was born in 1882 in <strong>the</strong><br />

village <strong>of</strong> Potodeyevo, Narovchatsky region, Mordovia, and served in <strong>the</strong><br />

village <strong>of</strong> Vopilovka, Narovchatsky region. In 1931 he was arrested and<br />

sentenced to ten years in <strong>the</strong> camps. He was released early and returned on<br />

June 26, 1932. On June 27, 1935 he was arrested for “participation in religious<br />

anti-Soviet meetings”, was cast into Penza House <strong>of</strong> Preliminary Arrest, and<br />

on September 21 was sentenced in accordance with articles 58-10 and 58-11 to<br />

five years’ exile I <strong>the</strong> north. He also accused that “he joined a group <strong>of</strong><br />

churchmen headed by [Fr. Pachomius] Ionov, took part in illegal meetings<br />

and helped Ionov to hide in <strong>the</strong> underground”. Nothing more is known about<br />

him.<br />

Priest Euthymius Fyodorovich Kulikov was born on December 22, 1876 in<br />

<strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Shuty (now Savinki), Narovchatsky uyezd, Penza province. On<br />

August 19, 1888 he finished his studies at <strong>the</strong> Shuty village school, and in 1895<br />

– at <strong>the</strong> Narochatsky uyezd school. On May 20, 1895 he became a teacher in a<br />

church-parish school in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Abashevo, Narovchatsky uyezd. On<br />

June 18, 1905 he was ordained to <strong>the</strong> priesthood and sent to <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Nikolskoye, Navorchatsky uyezd, where he was also teacher <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Law <strong>of</strong><br />

God in <strong>the</strong> church-parish school. On October 11, 1910 he was appointed<br />

uyezd missionary, and had great success in converting Old Ritualists to <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Orthodox</strong> Church. On October 27, 1914 he was transferred to <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Nikolayevka, Insarsky uyezd. On April 30, 1920 he was retired at his own<br />

request because <strong>of</strong> illness, and worked for a while as a clerk. In 1917 he was<br />

elected by <strong>the</strong> clergy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Penza diocese to be a delegate at <strong>the</strong> Local Council<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Russian <strong>Orthodox</strong> Church. On December 8, 1924 he was appointed to<br />

serve in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Sergievo-Paleologovo, Penza uyezd. On October 11,<br />

1926 he was retired at his own request. On March 10, 1931 he was arrested in<br />

Penza, and on January 2, 1932 was convicted <strong>of</strong> “belonging to a branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

All-Union Church-Monarchist Organization, ‘The True <strong>Orthodox</strong> Church’”,<br />

and was sentenced to five years in <strong>the</strong> camps. He was sent to<br />

Medvezhyegorsk in Arkhangelsk province. On October 19, 1933 he was<br />

conditionally released. On February 27, 1937 he was arrested for “organizing<br />

services in his flat” and sentenced to five years in <strong>the</strong> camps. He was sent to<br />

Karaganda, where, on February 4, 1942, he died.<br />
