in <strong>the</strong> Kazan ca<strong>the</strong>dral in Syzran. On February 21, 1931 he was arrested and<br />

cast into <strong>the</strong> Syzran domzak for being “a participant in a counterrevolutionary<br />

church-monarchist organization and preparing a rebellious<br />

mood in <strong>the</strong> masses <strong>of</strong> believers”. On October 28, 1931 he was sentenced to<br />

three years’ exile in <strong>the</strong> north in accordance with articles 58-10 and 58-11.<br />

Michael Andreyevich Lyabin. He was born in November, 1888 in <strong>the</strong><br />

second Saratovsky poselok, Sharlyksky region, Middle Volga region into a<br />

peasant family. He finished his studies at a village school. When <strong>the</strong> region<br />

was occupied by <strong>the</strong> Whites in 1918-19 he helped <strong>the</strong>m with animals, bread,<br />

etc. He lived in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong> Pletnevka, Sharlyksky region, and had a wife,<br />

Eudocia (born 1890), and had three sons and a daughter. He was arrested for<br />

<strong>the</strong> first time in March, 1930 and was sentenced to <strong>the</strong> confiscation <strong>of</strong> two<br />

horses in accordance with article 61. On November 3, 1930 he was arrested<br />

again and accused <strong>of</strong> “participation in <strong>the</strong> counter-revolutionary organization<br />

‘<strong>the</strong> Trues [True <strong>Orthodox</strong> Christians?]’”, and sentenced to five years in <strong>the</strong><br />

camps in accordance with articles 58-10, 58-11 and 59-7. Nothing more is<br />

known about him.<br />

Michael Petrovich Rasskazov. He was born in 1873 in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Lipovka in <strong>the</strong> Lower Volga region into a peasant family. In 1885 he finished<br />

his studies at <strong>the</strong> village school <strong>of</strong> Lipovka. He was married to Lyubov<br />

Fyodorovna (born 1873) and had two sons and two daughters. In 1930 he was<br />

working as a hired labourer. On December 11, 1930 he was arrested in Syzran<br />

and cast into Syzran Domzak. On October 28, 1931 he was given an unknown<br />

sentence in accordance with articles 58-10 and 58-11. Nothing more is known<br />

about him.<br />

Theodore Pavlovich Zhegalov. He was born in 1883 or 1873 in <strong>the</strong> village<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chekalino, Syzran uyezd, Samara province into a peasant family. Before<br />

1914 he worked as a peasant and had a grocery stall. During <strong>the</strong> First World<br />

War he served in <strong>the</strong> tsarist army. In 1918, during <strong>the</strong> retreat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Whites, he<br />

went with <strong>the</strong>m to Krasnoyarsk and lived <strong>the</strong>re until 1921. In 1922 he was on<br />

invalidity pension. In <strong>the</strong> 1920s he was deprived <strong>of</strong> his civil rights, and was a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church council <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ascension church in Syzran. In 1927, and<br />

again in 1928, he was arrested and cast into Syzran Domzak, but was soon<br />

released. In 1928 he was elected by a district deanery meeting to go to Moscow<br />

“about a bishop”. In Moscow he met Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky).<br />

From 1929 he worked as a nightwatchman. He was married to Praskovya<br />

Mikhailovna (born 1882), and had two daughters and a son. On February 21,<br />

1931 he was arrested and cast into Syzran Domzak. On October 28 he was<br />

convicted <strong>of</strong> “being an active member and in <strong>the</strong> ruling core <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> churchmercantile-monarchist<br />

organization, ‘The Trues’”. In accordance with articles<br />

58-10 and 58-11, he was sentenced to three years’ exile in <strong>the</strong> north. Nothing<br />

more is known about him.<br />
