was the same in 1998, too. The Latvian situation with respect to working
hours has in fact been surprisingly stable: in a period of three years (1999-
2001), there has been practically no change in the length of the working
weeks.

The average hours worked per week by men in Latvia was 45.9, and by
women 42.5 hours; in other words, the averages are clearly greater than in
Estonia and Lithuania. In Latvia, long working weeks are very usual - especially
