The development in occupational safety in Lithuania has been somewhat
weaker than in the other two countries. As many as four out of five workers
had not noticed any change in this respect. Only about one-tenth (11.1 %) of
the Lithuanian working people saw work safety as having improved. The corresponding
proportion in Latvia was 18.4 % and in Estonia 14.2 %. There are
thus fewer positive experiences in Lithuania compared with the other countries
under comparison; and the negative experiences are correspondingly more
numerous. In Lithuania, too, the men see the development as positive a little
more commonly than do the women. However, the differences in views between
the genders as regards changes in work safety are clearly smaller than
those in Latvia and Estonia.

Fewer changes have taken place in work safety in Latvia and Estonia now than
in the late 1990s. Fewer have experienced either positive or negative changes
than in 1998. The situation in Lithuania is different. There, fewer than before
have noticed positive changes and more have observed negative ones. Although
those experiencing positive changes are nevertheless twice as many as
those suffering negative ones, the Lithuanian trend is not a favourable one.
