There are somewhat more chances for the men than for the women. This is true in both the public
178 and the private sectors, though in the public sector the gap between the genders is much bigger 6 . The youngest wage earners experience their power of decision in this regard as better than that of the older age groups. In Lithuania, the differences between the sectors were opposite to those seen in Latvia. The wage earners in the Lithuanian public sector saw their possibilities of influencing work tempo as clearly better than those of the privatesector employees. The gender gaps, too, contrasted with those in Latvia. The Lithuanian women had more autonomy than the men, in this issue as well. The experiences of different-aged workers did not differ greatly from each other, though the youngest age group considered their autonomy in work tempo to be slightly better than that of the other age groups. Among the women in the private sector, 73 % answered accordingly. As to the male wage earners in the public sector, 70 % thought their possibilities of influencing the work pace were at least rather good. Of the public-sector women, 61 % answered that way.
