LITHUANIA 239 Lithuania differs from Estonia and Latvia in that its proportion of negative assessments has grown during the last three years. There is only one exception to this. The trend in gender equality has been evaluated positively much more often than before. Despite this, the balance for gender equality still remains lower in 2002 than for the other factors being evaluated. Another aspect regarded more negatively than the average is empowerment, the possibility of influencing one's own job. By contrast, the most positive assessment of all has been given to trends in the meaningfulness of working and in self-development opportunities. Lithuanian wage earners' sceptical attitude as to current trends in working life is also seen when considering whom the changes have affected. The differences between the various categories of wage earners are rather large when the changes between 1998 and 2002 are examined. MEN AND WOMEN 240 The increased negativity of Lithuania's trend assessments is due almost entirely to a growth in scepticism on the part of the men. For nearly all the factors under evaluation, fewer men than before consider the trend positive. The women's views on the changes, on the other hand, are close to those of three years ago in most respects.
