In 2002, the gap between Estonia and Latvia had narrowed. This is because
the Estonian wage earners' evaluations are more favourable than before, while
those of the Latvians have stayed almost the same. It is characteristic of Latvia
that the assessments of working life trends have remained surprisingly similar
to those of three years ago.
The only definite change in Latvia compared with 1998 is in the handling of
environmental issues, whose evaluation has now clearly been positive more
often than before. In other aspects, the changes are small. Though the changes
in Latvia between 1998 and 2001 have not been very great, the summaries
compiled below show - as for Estonia - how the changes apply in the case of
various wage earner segments.
