Make a Telephone Call Like the movie E.T., call home. It is critical to stay in touch<br />

with clients, colleagues, potential clients, friends, competitors, vendors, suppliers,<br />

and a host of others. Keep a list of who you need to call and then stay on top of<br />

your calls.<br />

• Stay in touch with others and you will have a natural network.<br />

• Keep updated telephone numbers in your Day-Timer or your PDA so that you<br />

can call while waiting in an airport or on a long taxi ride.<br />

Customer Appreciation Pro<strong>gr</strong>ams Have a plan to specifically thank your customers<br />

and tell them how much you appreciate their business. It can be tied to<br />

some of the other ideas on this list, such as gifts at various holidays. It could also<br />

be a standalone event where you invite your top customers to a dinner party, or<br />

you could tie it to business and invite them to the rollout of a new pro<strong>gr</strong>am you<br />

will introduce to the public in the near future.<br />

Considerations:<br />

• You could develop a customer-of-the-month award, providing an en<strong>gr</strong>aved<br />

plaque to each one.<br />

• Keep pro<strong>gr</strong>ams simple and measurable.<br />

Prospecting Letters This is a letter that introduces you to your client and tells your<br />

client how you think you could work together. I recommend personalized letters<br />

for each organization. Any letter that tries to address a large number of potential<br />

clients will be tossed in the trash. If you are going in that direction, I suggest you<br />
