If after all this you still think you would like to take a shot at designing your own
website, you will find a simple process with a CD-ROM for support in Alexander
One last thing. Do you realize that launching your website is just one more reason
to contact your clients? It is. So once it is up and running and all the bugs are worked
out, determine how you can grab the attention of everyone on your mailing list. We
conducted two direct mailings. One included an @-shaped flashlight and the other
one was a giant silver @-shaped paper clip. The items were perfect for the launch and
they met the MUMU Measure. They were memorable, unique, mailable, and useful.
E-MAIL MARKETING
Weigh the option to market by e-mail. It can backfire. All of us have felt the frustration
when we begin to open e-mail and find eight of them from mortgage companies!
E-mail marketing works best in two cases.
The first is to your present clients to inform them of something new that is
going on with you. The second is to potential clients who have asked for something
specific.
To be effective, you should follow the same guidelines that you do for any directmail
piece. The e-mail should have a headline that grabs attention, a short message
that emphasizes benefits, and a call to action. Check your spelling and
grammar, personalize it if you can, and use a short, descriptive subject line. Include
instructions for how readers can be removed from the list if they wish.
If you still think that you have a service or product you wish to promote via email,
I suggest that you use an organization that specializes in Internet mass mailings
to help you. An e-mail mass mailing may cost as little as $29 or as much as
$500. It is inexpensive, but the rate of return is very low. Since it is possible to email
to millions of potential clients in a matter of minutes, you need to zero in on
the market you want to receive your e-mail. Ensure that the person you hire uses
a list that targets the individuals and companies you wish.
