Website Your website should be state of the art. I find that my website is similar
to my brochure twenty years ago. Everyone expected me to have one, but few really
use it for anything beyond the first visit. Realize that your website does not replace
your brochure—not yet anyway. Your website should be easy to maneuver
and exciting to visit. Use a professional to help you design it.
Considerations:
• Your home page should be appealing and easy to understand.
• Provide immediate value with downloads of quizzes, articles, and tools that will
appeal to potential clients.
• Have a process that makes it easy to contact you.
• Print your website address on your business cards, brochures, and other paper
products.
Send an E-mail or an Electronic Newsletter E-mail promotions and electronic
newsletters are different. While an e-mail is usually used to promote a seminar or
your book, an e-newsletter should be non-promotional. Make your electronic campaigns
successful by obtaining permission to send them first and identifying the
kind of information potential clients want. Also give users the option to remove
their names each time (this is required by law).
Considerations:
• Keep the message short; you have three to six seconds to grab and keep their attention;
even e-newsletters should be no more than one screen long.
• Keep promotion separate from news.
• Use an informative subject line.
• Be prepared to reply within twelve to twenty-four hours.
• Ask current subscribers for referrals.
Publish Articles, books, a newspaper column, letters to the editor, and book reviews
are all ways to put your name in front of potential clients. This is a great way
to share your knowledge repeatedly. When submitting articles, always include a
