Advanced Reagents for Detection
Inhibitors of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) are common leading to considerable
blunting of the potentially exquisite sensitivity of this method. Such false-negative results
pass unrecognized unless an internal (amplifi cation) control is routinely included in the
test. Primer Sets from Novocastra normally consist of a pair of oligonucleotide primers and
an internal control template. The target DNA and internal control DNA co-amplify with the
same primers but yield products of a different size. The PCR products may be resolved on
an agarose gel, giving a rapid, sensitive test at low cost. Each primer set has been tested in
conventional heated block instruments, as well as capillary air thermal cyclers and comes
