Thesis Keith Gale 2013Group C: Identification of performance drivers detected by participants withinframework agreements:H6: Performance outcomes are positively associated with sociological factors(behaviour factors) and operational factor (performance measures). The procurement performance model constructed in chapter three displayed twosignificant constructs – sociological factors identified through ten ‘most significantgroup behaviours’ of effective performance taken from published research – andoperational factors arising from identification and application of performancemeasures. Hypothesis 6 proposes that examination of qualitative data throughquestionnaires and interviews produces a generalised correlation with positiveproject outcomes.4.5 Research sequence applicable to construction management researchThis research will adopt a sequential four phase approach suggested by Fellows andLiu (2008):1. Extent of the problem has been recognised through reference to publishedUK government reports between 1944 and the present day about performance withthe construction industry. Context is achieved by placing the research within publicsector procurement and boundaries attained through a case study and reflected byprofessional practice.2. A problem statement constructed from concerns of government clients withperformance and attempts made by professional practice to address them. Theproblem statement includes differing views of framework agreements as a method ofimproving performance with reference to professional reports and constructionindustry issues at the time of research.3. Six hypotheses from three groups have been formulated using an aggregationof diverse but interrelated theories. These align with construction managementtheories for identification and measurement of performance used to provide a basisfor obtaining empirical data.85
