Thesis Keith Gale 201310.6 Interview transcription analysisAnalysis of interview transcriptions involved transferring all MS Word files intospecialist software specifically designed to correlate information from qualitativedata. A database was constructed within NVivo version 9.2 produced by QSRInternational Pty Ltd (Australia). The database placed all data within an orderedstructure so that analysis followed a systematic approach where themes could bedetected and aligned between responses.Individuals’ responses are aligned to reflect questions posed by the interviewer – butthe underlying aim of an interview procedure is to elicit views, knowledge andexperiences of the interviewee concerning the research subject. Although containedwithin a structured set of questions posed to all, participant responses wereunstructured allowing views to be freely given. Interviewees are encouraged to statetheir views without restriction with interviewees have no prior knowledge of thequestions. This is a deliberate tactic to gain honest and forthright responses on the‘spur of the moment’. Resultant transcription text reflects this – psychologicalmarkers reflect participant views and progressive thought patterns as intervieweesuse their knowledge to reply to questions in a logical fashion. Transcriptions aregathered together for the ten interviews to represent a sociological class group view.Analysis is conducted as a whole from transcripts in order provide a holistic view ofthe case study research. The transcript is as recorded and a cursory initial examination of responses revealslucid and thoughtful views. All participants are post-graduate educated individualsand therefore are highly conversant with technical language allowing engagementwith complex conceptual matters. In addition, all share significant experience ofworking within the sector and are prepared to give forthright and honest answerswith logical justification to support their opinions. A summary of interviewees iscontained in Table 10.1.232
