Appendices to Thesis Keith Gale 2013about things. He knows how we administer and conversely we do the same the otherway as well. All of that improves an understanding and I think that obviously umhelps the relationships in some cases. Obviously not all the time. We obviously knowthat there are a lot of people out there that it doesn’t matter what you do, you’re stillgoing to be in the same boat at the end of it but generally I would say that theframework is better for building relationships. Obviously the flip side of the coin forthe contractor is they’re looking at secured future work. And that’s what they’reafter. You know, guaranteed workload over the next sort of three or four years.Do you think you can become too familiar? Do you think that’s a risk?Personally, no. I think we’re professional people. You know, you can like people butyou also know that you’ve got a job to do. So you know, whilst I like somecontractors, it doesn’t mean that when there is an argument that’s got any bearing onit at all.Q13 In your view, does the use of key performance indicators help the parties gainbetter performance with projects? Why do you think this is?Umm, I think in time, once the contractors know the parameters, umm they’re keento score as high as possible to enhance both their individual and their corporatereputations. Umm, I mean following along client lists, there are obvious financialbenefits in the fact that there will be more work because of it.Q14 In your opinion, is the collection of key performance data worthwhile? Is itdemanding?Right, well the answer is yes I do, but no I’m not involved in collecting it. So yes, Ido think it’s a worthwhile exercise. I think, you know, you do notice that contractorsare a little bit keener to please because they know that they may be marked down ifthey don’t perform. And its not just performing you know, in the field, its performingacross the whole spectrum. So yes, I do think that its worthwhile.406
