Thesis Keith Gale 201311.5.4 Inductive and validity review of modelInductive reasoning reverses the conceptual process by developing a hierarchy fromthe observed data. Data collected from the case study provides an interface with facevalidity as the raw data represents project outcomes (contractual or verified metrics),participants responses from a technical class, or transcripts of participant views. Thedata comprises a mixture of project outcomes (quantitative), questionnaire results(quantitative of qualitative views) and interviews (qualitative). The data source isused to investigate specific research questions by alignment with individualhypotheses. Appropriate methods, using a comparative approach with otherconstruction management research (identified with hypotheses validationpreviously), provides construct validity to the results.Significant inclusion with experienced practitioners of views allows the results toreflect tasks, activities, events and environmental factors representative ofprofessionals generally occurring elsewhere. Although the case study may providelimitations to this, content validity is provided through participants wider experienceselsewhere.11.5.5 Discussion from reflective analysis of performance modelGraphical representation of the performance model reflected origins constructedfrom published literature allied to the research topic. Two significant elements arosefrom the literature review identified from characteristics of high performanceorganisations (Akedemir et al, 2010) – an operational construct reflectingperformance measurement research and a sociological construct recognising groupperformance methods from psycho-sociological studies – centred on the frameworkagreement.Reflective analysis of the model indicates a strong association with each significantelement. The operational construct relied upon use of key performance indicators tomeasure project outcomes where successful projects could place suppliers forselection of a future project by use of a marginal incentive system related to priceand quality assessment. Operation of the construct gave a measurable improvementin project performance outcomes (discussed further in chapter twelve) but whereasthe model presupposed that this was due to pure financial competition upon suppliers263
