The themes recognised through this process and shown in Table 10.3centre around performance, contractual mechanisms, incentives, communication,relationships and the like. Strong socio-psychological drivers appear recognised byparticipants of the interviews as anticipated by the model. Strength with responsesvaries according to views - strong responses correlate with all participants offeringsuccinct views whereas weak responses are dispersed with varying causes. Anoverall inference from meta-synthesis for this research is discussed at conclusions ofthis chapter.10.8 Significant qualitative statements from participantsOpinions and views form an important element of sociological trends because theserepresent individual psychological empathy which may affect team performance. Asproposed by Cresswell (2003), attitudes and opinions generated through a populationwill be gathered through a sample of that population. A quantitative sample may beobtained through interviews in response to questions posed in a face to face situation.The importance of obtaining qualitative data – particularly from experiencedconstruction professionals – cannot be underestimated. George and Bennett (2005,p.20) suggested that use of quantitative methods in isolation does not allowresearchers to get as close to phenomena as those adopting case study methods. Their245
