Thesis Keith Gale 201310.7 Qualitative meta-synthesis: examination of results within the context ofinterview responsesResults from thematic analysis uncover an interrelated number of key results (orthemes) that can be placed according to frequency into a hierarchal structure.Aggregation of results allows the strength of a theme to be measured within thesociological group, as a higher value indicates stronger affirmation to that theme. The final stage of interview analysis is through ‘third order interpretation’ (Britten etal., 2002; Campbell, et al., 2003) where review judgement is placed against thequestions posed. Such interpretation requires a cyclical process where answers aregauged against questions and strength of response recorded. The process is repeatedagainst a context of hierarchy until conclusions are reached. It is recognised howeverthat qualitative synthesis ‘involves some degree of innovation, or employment ofconcepts not found in the characterisation of the parts and a means of creating thewhole’ (Campbell, et al., 2003, pg 672).To provide a control of meta-synthesis, a matrix table was devised in Table 10.3.Table 10.3: Meta-synthesis matrix from interview results and responsesInterview questionthemeQ6 – Drivers for startingon time – project timeoutcomeQ7 – Encourage finishingon time – project timeoutcomeQ8 – Start and finish ontime – project timeoutcomeQ9 – Framework start andfinish more than discrete– project time outcomeParticipantresponse themeKey performanceindicators, motivationContractualrequirements, motivation, incentivesLong termrelationshipsthrough joinedprojectsLong termrelationships andperformancemonitoringStrength ofresponseMediumMediumStrongStrongInferenceDivision inviews betweenKPI’s,reputation andcontractrequirementsDivision inviews betweencontractualrequirementsand financialincentivesUnderstandingof workingtogether andcontinuity ofteamsPerformance ishigher withframeworkagreements but243
