Description:<br />

The function of the City<br />

Attorney’s Office is to serve<br />

the City of McAllen with<br />

the highest quality of legal<br />

advice and representation.<br />

The office advises the<br />

Mayor, City Commission,<br />

City Management, City<br />

Boards and employees in<br />

all areas of the law. The<br />

City Attorney’s Office is<br />

involved in the preparation<br />

of contracts, code<br />

enforcement, legislation,<br />

real estate, litigation, labor<br />

and financial matters for<br />

the City. The City<br />

Attorney’s Office also<br />

defends the City in civil<br />

lawsuits and prosecutes<br />

Class “C” misdemeanors in<br />

municipal court and<br />

oversees the City’s Right of<br />

Way Department relating<br />

to condemnation and other<br />

issues. The Office is<br />

located at City Hall. The<br />

City Attorney also serves in<br />

the capacity of the City’s<br />

Emergency Management<br />

Coordinator by<br />

appointment of the Mayor.<br />

While the City currently<br />

has no formal department<br />

of Emergency<br />

Management, the<br />

Emergency Management<br />

Coordinator (“EMC”)<br />

coordinates the emergency<br />

planning, preparedness,<br />

response, and recovery<br />

aspects of all departments<br />

city-wide.<br />
