Abstract
The “Design and construction of a Kart Cross type vehicle for Rally” project, responds
to the motivation of experimenting with planning, designing and constructing of a
competing vehicle; the “Fórmula Automovilística Universitaria”, project proposed by
Escuela Superior Politecnica del Chimborazo, which conjugates the purpose of
motivating students majoring in Mechanical Engineering at national level to develop
and enhance their ingenuity in the automotive field. Both of these facts have derived
in the execution of this project.
The construction of a vehicle, as it is the case for this project, helped us to know and
learn the utility of all the necessary mechanisms and systems for the operation of an
automobile, it also helped us develop creativity in the manufacture of parts in order to
fulfill the singular and specific needs for each case.
The manufacture of this vehicle is a practical application of good engineering, as it
involves a theoretic - practical area in the design, construction, application of
knowledge and execution of the project, as it responds to the importance of an
integral professionalization, in which the execution of learned subjects is fundamental.
By having coordinated the intentionality of creating a rally vehicle with an
interuniversity project perfectly delimited in some areas, we were allowed to
experience the complexity of the execution of the project as an integral work, it also
made us visualize the objective from different perspectives and penetrate in a variety
of mechanics, economics, marketing, management, and human relationship fields,
having us take opportune and assertive decisions.
In summary, the design and construction of this vehicle, totally created in Ecuador,
allows students as well as faculty members in San Francisco University to go through
its project’s improvement, also having an experimental project enables the possibility
of reaching better products in a progressive form and, potentially, reach the
industrialization of a completely Ecuadorian vehicle.
