Sans comm<strong>en</strong>taire ni explication, “Baka” nous confronte à uneAfrique originelle que l’on croyait disparue, <strong>en</strong>gloutie par les guerres et lamarche forc<strong>en</strong>ée vers la civilisation. Et nous nous rappelons que sur cecontin<strong>en</strong>t meurtri viv<strong>en</strong>t <strong>en</strong>core <strong>de</strong>s hommes <strong>en</strong> harmonie avec la nature.Somewhere <strong>de</strong>ep in the equatorial forest of South-East Cameroon live theBaka Pygmies. In this d<strong>en</strong>se <strong>en</strong>vironm<strong>en</strong>t there is no trace of Westerncivilisation. Daily life is governed by ancestral rites and the necessities ofsurvival. Without comm<strong>en</strong>tary or explanation, “Baka” confronts us with anoriginal Africa that we thought had disappeared, swallowed up by wars andthe forced march towards civilisation. Alors que ces<strong>de</strong>rniers constitu<strong>en</strong>t une attraction honorable, les terrils sont proprem<strong>en</strong>tdénigrés. Luc Moullet et son équipe technique <strong>en</strong>trepr<strong>en</strong>n<strong>en</strong>t une visitecocasse et guidée <strong>de</strong> ces lieux opaques, porteurs d’espoir pour ledéveloppem<strong>en</strong>t touristico-économique <strong>de</strong> la région.The “urchins” in question are slag heaps, geographical aberrations innorthern France, the poor relations of the volcanoes of the Auvergne. Whilethe latter constitute an honourable attraction, the slag heaps are totallyd<strong>en</strong>igrated. Luc Moullet and his camera crew un<strong>de</strong>rtake a comical gui<strong>de</strong>dvisit of these opaque places that provi<strong>de</strong> hope for tourism and the economic<strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>t of the region.EP193
