Mariée à Miguel Enriquez, chef de la Résistanceassassiné par la police à son domicile, Carmen Castillo, alors enceinte,a été contrainte à l’exil. Après de très longues années passées àparcourir le monde pour soutenir le combat à distance et alerterl’opinion, elle décide de revenir aujourd’hui sur cette périodetumultueuse, dans un Chili si modifié par l’ennemi qu’elle n’est pluscertaine de s’y sentir chez elle. Avec le recul du temps et le bilan amerde la défaite, une telle entreprise ne saurait se résumer à unecélébration de moments héroïques. Aussi décide-t-elle de faire retoursur l’âpreté des sacrifices, sur la lucidité difficile en ces tempsobscurs. Sur la complexité d’un combat politique et ses incidencesdans la vie de chacun et de chacune. Car elle a été, comme d’autresqu’elle rencontre et questionne, militante mais aussi épouse,résistante mais aussi mère ou fille. C’est une telle intrication quin’abandonne rien à l’abstraction, que cette longue et bouleversanteenquête traverse, entraînée à écrire ce morceau d’histoire dans laperspective du présent. With hindsight and in the bitter aftermath of defeat, such anundertaking cannot be resumed as a celebration of heroic moments. Also shedecides to return to the bitterness of sacrifice, and the difficult lucidity of thoseobscure times. She also looks at the complexity of the political combat theconsequences on the lives of those concerned. Because she was, like many othersthat she meets and questions, an activist but also a wife, a member of theresistance but also a mother and daughter. It is just such an implication thatleaves nothing to abstraction, that this long and disturbing investigation crosses,forced to write this piece of history from the perspective of the present.
