EDMICHEL AURÉLIE TREGAN FILIPETTIPRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL OF MARSEILLEEDITORIALSLadies and G<strong>en</strong>tlem<strong>en</strong>,I am <strong>de</strong>lighted to welcome you to the 18th International Docum<strong>en</strong>tary Film <strong>Festival</strong> ofMarseille.The festival team has be<strong>en</strong> able to put together a chall<strong>en</strong>ging programme thanks tothe confid<strong>en</strong>ce and the precious support accor<strong>de</strong>d us by all of our partners including theCity of Marseille, the Prov<strong>en</strong>ce-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Ministry of Culture and theBouche-<strong>du</strong>-Rhône Departm<strong>en</strong>t, without forgetting all our other public and private sectorpartners.By conforming to the most op<strong>en</strong> and g<strong>en</strong>erous <strong>de</strong>finition of the docum<strong>en</strong>tary film, this18th festival is nonetheless subject to a pleasant modification. The competition selectionsthis year will inclu<strong>de</strong> fiction films. It is above all an opportunity to question the limits of theg<strong>en</strong>re in a fruitful way (if in<strong>de</strong>ed such films have a docum<strong>en</strong>tary air about them of course).At the heart of this project is the liberty of programming and the possibility of increase<strong>de</strong>xchanges with the public.I am equally happy with the partnership put in place with Radio France Culture, who willbe pres<strong>en</strong>t for the highlights of the <strong>Festival</strong>. Not forgetting our long collaboration with LesCahiers <strong>du</strong> Cinéma with whom we are offering a retrospective of the film director PedroCosta.We are very happy to be back at the Criée National Theatre. I would also like to thank theother scre<strong>en</strong>ing places that have be<strong>en</strong> ad<strong>de</strong>d for projections and meetings throughoutthe festival period including Les Variétés cinema, the Agora <strong>de</strong>s Sci<strong>en</strong>ces, the CRDP andthe BMVR of the Alcazar. The number of sessions has be<strong>en</strong> significantly increased andthis will allow the public more leisure to choose from the one hundred films on offer.As usual, there will be meetings with directors from around the world accompanied bytheir films and a combination of <strong>de</strong>bates and convivial mom<strong>en</strong>ts that weave that specialfestival atmosphere which is so particular to Marseille.
