Ses œuvres sont régulièrement sélectionnées etrécompensées dans les festivals internationaux.En 1973, il réalise La bataille du Chili, un documentaire de cinq heures sur la fin dugouvernement d’Allende. La revue nord-américaine “Cinéaste” le sélectionne comme “undes dix meilleurs films politiques du monde”. Après le coup d’Etat, il est menacé d’exécutionet emprisonné pendant deux semaines dans le stade national. Il quitte le pays en novembre1973. Il vit à Cuba, en Espagne, et en France pendant qu’il réalise les films Au Nom deDieu (Grand prix Florence 1987), La Croix du Sud (Grand prix Marseille 1992), LaMémoire Obstinée (Grand prix Tel-Aviv 1999), Le Cas Pinochet (Grand Prix Marseille2002), Salvador Allende (Sélection Officiel Cannes 2004). Comme professeur, il donnedes cours de cinéma documentaire en Europe et Amérique Latine. Il est fondateur etdirecteur du Festival International de Documentaire à Santiago du Chilie. After the coup d’état he was threatened with execution andimprisoned for two weeks in the national stadium. He left the country in November 1973and lived in Cuba and Spain.
