Lanationalité n’y change rien cependant, la simplicité du dispositif du filmprécédent est maintenue. Le camarade Poliakov, assis ou debout,toujours immobile, est retenu dans un espace restreint. Guère plusgrand, c’est l’idée, que celui des cabines à bord desquelles il a tournéautour de la planète. Et donc, le verbe laissé lui en liberté, Poliakovnous raconte : les entraînements avant le départ, l’attente douloureuseavant de savoir si l’on est élu pour le long voyage, son rôle de médecincardiologue dans l’équipe, et, enfin les expériences, les sensations,les croyances, de cette petite communauté en plein ciel. Uniquelicence à cette austère mise à la question, son épouse apparaîtquelquefois à ses côtés, comme le rappel d’une attache que ces lentsmois passés dans cette prison céleste n’ont pas entamé. Comme lerappel aussi, incarné en un corps de femme, de feue cette UnionSoviétique pour laquelle la nuit de l’espace était alors surtout l’enjeud’un conflit d’idéaux. This time it is the turn of a Russian to confide the secrets ofextraterrestrial adventure to the camera. The nationality changes nothing however,the simplicity of the set up of the previous film is maintained. Comrade Poliakov,seated or standing but always immobile, is filmed in a confined space. The ideais that it should resemble the modules aboard which he circled planet. Poliakovtells us about the pre-flight training, the painful wait to know if he had been chosenfor the long voyage, his role as cardiologist in the team, and finally the experiences,sensations and beliefs of this little community up in the sky. The only exception tothis austere questioning is when his wife sometimes appears at his side as areminder of an attachment that those slow months spent in the celestial presenthad not undermined. But also as a reminder, embodied in the body of a woman,of the former Soviet Union for which the night of space was above all the stakein an ideological conflict. (JPR)061
