ossimori dell’immagine (Themes).
e l’italiano Carlo Michele Schirinzi.
Video internazionali e quelle italiane. Nelle prime, nitore
formale ed economicità di stile; fissità, deformazione,
metaforizzazioni larghe, tic e volute forzature nelle seconde
(Miserere, Candidato a sette premi Oscar, Mucche), fino
all’autoritratto femminile in interno, quotidiano e pensoso
Another intent of this portolano is to offer in fieri portraits of
auteurs presented in the midst of their oeuvre. Our choice was
purposely antithetical: the cosmopolitan Laura Waddington,
part of the Sixpack collective, and Italy’s Carlo Michele Schirinzi.
Whereas Waddington is an investigator of travelers and
travels first and foremost interior, which she describes from a
“hiding place,” Schirinzi is concentrically committed to moving
the marionette that is himself, battling between impulses and the
ridiculous, from inside a house in Acquarica del Capo, in Puglia,
to project himself into the infinite of the flight and the dream.
Highly different approaches, but unified in the patient adaptation
of their work, between the video medium and an arduous
dictate: bartering their personal style with a reverberation of pixels.
The same differences exist between the international and Italian
Nuove Proposte Video. In the former, formal clarity and economy
of style; steadiness, deformation, broad metaphors, tics and
deliberate straining in the latter (Miserere, Candidato a sette
premi Oscar, Mucche), to the intimate, daily and thoughtful
feminine self-portrait in Tutto il mio tempo.
Last, but certainly not least, is the retrospective dedicated to
Sicilian collective Cane CapoVolto, whose entire body of work
resides along the distinct border between fiction and mystification,
so that their creative progress corresponds to the witty discovery
of the origins of the media message’s monumental lie.
