JANG SUN-WOO
YONGHWA PAEK CHUNYON
KINYOM HAN’GUKP’YON:
KIL WIUI YONGHWA
Cinema on the Road
(Cinema on the road: un saggio sul
Adocumentary commissioned by the British Film Institute for
the The Century of Cinema series bears witness to Jang Sunwoo’s
search for the true essence of Korean cinema. The director
shoots several kilometers of film in Seoul but considers them useless
for his intentions. He then undertakes a journey that –
among visits to memorable places and interviews with directors,
those who work in the world of cinema, and ordinary people –
traces and intertwines the events of his country and his films.
Jang Sun-woo (1995)
“I met people on the road and recorded what they said about
Korean cinema with a 16mm camera. It’s a personal account of
the way that cinema has influenced the lives of modern Koreans.”
