Il ritratto di un padre famoso eppure sconosciuto. Horst
Buchholz l’attore, Horst Buchholz il padre. In questo documentario
il figlio Christopher con l’aiuto di Sandra Hacker
prova a riconciliare le due figure. Sullo sfondo passano le
immagini dei film, comprese le scene dell’ultima interpretazione
di Horst, quelle de La vita è bella. Intanto sopraggiunge
la morte dell’attore, quasi a proteggerlo dal costante
rifiuto di ricordare la propria vita.
A portrait of a famous yet unknown father. Horst Buchholz, the
actor; Horst Buchholz, the father. In this documentary, his son
Christopher, with the help of Sandra Hacker, tries to reconcile the
two figures. Images of his father’s films are projected in the background,
including Horst’s last role in Life is Beautiful. In the
meantime, his father dies, almost as if death were protecting him
from his constant refusal to look back over his own life.

Biografia
Christopher Buchholz è nato a Los Angeles nel 1962. Attore
per Antonioni, Peter Yates, Claire Denis, Pierre Schoendoerffer,
Virgil Widrich e Alessandro Colizzi, è anche regista
teatrale e ha diretto alcuni cortometraggi.
Sandra Hacker è nata ad Augsburg nel 1975. Ha studiato
all’Accademia di cinema di Baden-Württemberg con particolare
attenzione per i documentari. Lavora dal 1998 come
sceneggiatrice, regista e montatrice. Nel 2003 ha fondato
con Christopher Buchholz la casa di produzione Say Cheese
Productions.

Christopher Buchholz was born in Los Angeles in 1962. He has
worked as an actor for Michelangelo Antonioni, Peter Yates,
Claire Denis, Pierre Schoendoerffer, Virgil Widrich and Alessandro
Colizzi. He is also a theatre director and has directed several
short films.
Sandra Hacker was born in Augsburg in 1975. She studied at
the Film Academy in Baden-Württemberg, with a concentration
in documentary filmmaking. She has been working as a screenwriter,
director and editor since 1998. In 2003, she and Christopher
Buchholz founded the production company Say Cheese Productions.
