Y è una studentessa liceale diciottenne decisa a perdere la
verginità prima del diploma. Conosce J, un trentottenne
scultore di successo, e inizia una relazione clandestina e
saltuaria in alberghi spesso di infima categoria. Ben presto
si passa alle pratiche sadomaso. I due si concedono reciprocamente
a prestazioni sempre più estreme, accettando
il dolore come forma di dedizione totale al partner. J tuttavia
è sposato con G che vive a Parigi. E quando J si reca
dalla moglie, la distanza accentua il suo desiderio per la
giovane amante. La loro relazione clandestina, però, sta
per esaurirsi, messa in crisi prima dal fratello di Y che fa di
tutto per separare gli amanti, e poi dal logorio di un rapporto
che avrà un ultimo atto a Parigi.
Y is an 18 year-old high school determined to lose her virginity
before graduation. She meets J, a successful 38 year-old sculptor
and begins a secret and sporadic affair with him, often in seedy
hotels. Very soon, they begin engaging in sadomasochism. The
two indulge mutually in increasingly more extreme acts, accepting
pain as a form of total dedication to one another. However, J
is married to G, who lives in Paris. And when J visits his wife,
the distance only heightens his desire for his young lover. Their
secret affair, however, is coming to an end, disrupted first by Y’s
brother, who does everything possible to separate the lovers, and
then by the strain of a relationship whose final act will take place
in Paris.

bello e brutto. Questo film è incentrato su vita e amore. Ma
l’amore non è sempre così splendido. Solitamente nei film
è abbellito. Comunque ci vuole soltanto una piccola variazione
d’angolatura per vederlo come assurdo o senza speranze.
Il film parla anche del sogno di vivere, mangiare e
scopare senza dover lavorare. L’ortodossia sociale prescrive
che ciascuno dovrebbe lavorare sodo e vivere una vita
decente.[…] Volevo che le nozioni di bene e male perdessero
ogni significato, ma volevo anche continuare ad avere
un film ricco di un certo pathos… Comunque, cosa stiamo
giudicando? Non cadiamo nella tentazione di giudicare.

beauty and ugliness. This film centres on life and love. But love
isn’t always so terrific. It’s usually beautified in films. However,
it only takes a small change of perception to see it as absurd or
hopeless. This is also about a dream of living, eating and fucking
without having to work. Social orthodoxy prescribes that everyone
should work hard and live a decent life....I wanted the
notions of good and evil to lose all meaning, but still have a film
rich in a kind of pathos.... What are we judging anyway? Let's
throw away the impulse to pass judgement. Let’s just play. After
all, it’s all a game.”
