materiali extra filmici (sinossi, seminari, ecc.)? E quanto dovrebbero
all’interno del film?
in an integrity that is to found elsewhere is deeply rooted .
Once again in regards to Stereo, considering your collaboration
with defilated and experimental types of music,
is it plausible to conjecture a voluntary similarity to the
combinatorial modalities present in the practices of club
culture such as VJ-ing.
Not yet. But it’s an interesting world. A combinatory game
exists even there, along with research on audiovisual perception
and a dialectical exchange between sound and visual
sources. We’re studying, because maybe we’re not ready yet,
even though a small, first attempt was prepared in Bologna for
Netmage 03, with Stereo, on a concert by Massimo, which we
thought went well.
What does the use of recycled material mean to you
(including the photographic material for the print versions
and the Internet site) and in what way do you feel
the need to utilize already “used,” worn-out visual elements?
Re-using an image or text means exploring, backing up its
soul, the soul of the person who created it. It’s no coincidence
that, in Latin, “plagium” means “abduction of the soul.”
What is the relationship that is created or that you tend
to create with extra film material (synopses, seminars,
etc.)? And how much should they determine the viewing
and interpretation of your work?
We are currently holding seminars entitled “Nothing is True.
Everything is Allowed,” which we consider an interpretation
on the problem of (more or less didactic) coercion within our
audio and video works. The seminar is an opportunity to learn
something more: I mean for us who are conducting it, not
those listening! There is much to learn from the audience.
Actually, planning a seminar allows us to clarify and order
certain things in our heads already in the preparation phase,
that we then put into play during the seminar. But each time
we held one, we found ourselves reconsidering even those concepts
that we considered to be consolidated by now.
Why is it that most of the time you tend to specify the
origin or nature of the material re-used, instead of making
it disappear within the film?
Classifying and countermarking means that you’re re-using
something that already has its meanings; expressing something
that traverses the images and texts you’re showing.
That’s the most interesting part: first the magic trick, then its
explanation.
What do “cognitive dissonances” mean and how are
they put into practice?
“Cognitive dissonances,” like “Onda 400,” are part of the
neurochemical episodes. When the brain receives incoherent,
discordant information, it keeps on waiting for further data
that is useful to the composition of a context. These discoveries
were an important source of inspiration for us. The spectator
could become the physical place of the “Spectacle.”
Your relationships with Situationist techniques and the
sense of continuing to carrying out those kinds of actions
nowadays. Neoism.
Certainly, the creation of situations belongs as much to our
