Ga Yu, un giornalista di Pechino, è determinato a scoprire
la vera storia dei volontari di una pattuglia che proteggeva
le antilopi tibetane destinate ad essere massacrate dai
bracconieri. In cerca della verità, accompagna la pattuglia
per 40mila chilometri quadrati di deserto. Da osservatore
distaccato, Ga Yu si sente sempre più coinvolto e realizza
che questa non è un semplice pattugliamento ma un viaggio
intorno alla vita. Tratto da una storia vera, gli occhi di
Ga-Yu sono testimoni di una battaglia dove il bene e il
male non hanno confini.
Ga Yu, a journalist from Beijing, is determined to uncover the
true story behind the volunteers of a patrol team that protects
Tibetan antelopes from poachers. In search of the truth, he
accompanies the team through 40,000 square kilometers of
desert. Although a detached observer at first, Ga Yu becomes
increasingly more involved and realizes that is not simply a
guard watch but a journey into life. Based on a true story, Ga-
Yu bears witness to a battle where good and evil have no boundaries.

Mountain Patrol nella zona disabitata di Qingzang
Heights a Kekexili. Nonostante sia stato ufficialmente
creato dal governo locale, la pattuglia non riceve alcun
supporto finanziario. Affrontano una continua battaglia
contro i cacciatori di frodo. (…) Volevo esplorare anche gli
eventi dall’altro punto di vista, quello dei bracconieri. Il
risultato è che ora, per me, questi sono più simili a dei normali
allevatori piuttosto che a dei ladri brutali, come uno
potrebbe immaginare. La povertà li trasforma in macellai
che uccidono le antilopi per una sola ragione: la propria
sopravvivenza. (...) Questa è la ragione per cui ho fatto
questo film, per dare una testimonianza sugli uomini della
pattuglia e sul loro viaggio, e per mostrare alla gente
che, in definitiva, siamo tutti coinvolti nella lotta per la
sopravvivenza.”

“This film is based on the true story of the Mountain Patrol team
in the uninhabited area of Qingzang Heights in Kekexili.
Although officially formed by the local government, the patrol
team does not receive any financial support from them. They face
an ongoing battle with illegal poachers. I also wanted to explore
the events from the other side, from the standpoint of the poachers.
I visited Kekexili several times while writing the script, and
met with many real poachers. As a result, I now see them more
as ordinary farmers rather than the brutal robbers one would
imagine. Poverty turns them into slaughterers, killing the
antelopes for only one reason – their own survival. This is the
reason I made this film – to set the record straight about the
patrolmen and their journey, and to show people that, ultimately,
we are all involved in the struggle for survival.”

Biografia
Nato nel 1971 a Xinjiang, ha terminato nel 1998 un master
in regia presso l’Accademia di Cinema di Pechino. Il suo
primo lungometraggio, The Missing Gun ha ricevuto
numerosi premi.

Born in Xinjiang in 1971, he received his Masters in Directing
at Beijing’s Film Academy in 1998. His first feature, The Missing
Gun, picked up numerous awards.
