Un uomo che si crede Gesù Cristo, fugge dal manicomio e
si dà alla latitanza a Seoul. La punizione divina annunciata
nell’Apocalisse di Giovanni incombe e il “nuovo” Gesù
inizia a cercare una donna che simbolizzi questa Seoul
decadente e corrotta. Deve convincerla a convertirsi perché
la città sia salva. Nel frattempo incontra Tokkani, un
orfanello che vende gomme da masticare alla stazione.
Con il bimbo continuerà il suo folle cammino. Tokkani crede
che quest’uomo così generoso sia davvero Gesù e che
grazie a lui potrà finalmente trovare una madre. Braccati
dagli infermieri del manicomio, Gesù e l’orfanello trovano
Maria, affascinante promessa sposa di un facoltoso industriale
della città.
Aman believing himself to be Jesus Christ escapes from a mental
institution and hides out in Seoul. The divine punishment
heralded in the Apocalypse of John is impending and the “new”
Jesus begins searching for a woman who symbolizes this decadent
and corrupt Seoul. He must convince her to convert so that
the city will be saved. During his search, he meets Tokkani, an
orphan who sells chewing gum at the train station, and will continue
his mad quest accompanied by the boy. Tokkani believes
that this very generous man truly is Jesus and that, thanks to
him, he will finally find his mother. Pursued by the institution
nurses, Jesus and the orphan find Maria, the charming fiancée of
a wealthy businessman from Seoul.

Cristo apparisse a Seoul. L’idea originale prevedeva un climax
fino alla crocefissione, ma abbiamo dovuto cambiare
in favore di una fine più lieta. Abbiamo avuto due problemi
durante la produzione: la mancanza di soldi e di cooperazione
da parte delle autorità che lo vedevano come un
film antigovernativo.”

“The film tries to imagine what would happen if Jesus Christ
appeared in Seoul today. The original idea was to climax with his
crucifixion, but we had to change it to a happier ending. We had
two problems during the production: no money, and no cooperation
from the authorities, who saw it as an anti-government
film.”

political way, but I think that’s kind of useless, it’s not that
important. Of course at that time Seoul was a symbol of the
political situation, of desire and corruption. But now it’s better
not to focus on the political issues.”
