CANE CAPOVOLTO
INCONTRI E SEMINARI
possibile.
a) Street Angels with Virus (video, 1993, 9’)
b) Il criminale costituzionale (installazione per 2 televisori,
1995, 50’)
c) Evil pop (video, 1997, 16’)
d) Falsi spot radiofonici (audio)
e aziende inesistenti.
e) The Pentagon tv commercials (video, 18’)
latente.
f) Rock Radio (audio)
Due trasmissioni radiofoniche simulate sul Rock and Roll.
PRESENTATIONS AND SEMINARS
1) NOTHING IS TRUE AND EVERYTHING IS
ALLOWED
Audio and video contributions on the notions of “verisimilitude,”
“Persuasion” and the “Propaganda of Nothing.”
Taking an objective look at that which have revealed themselves
to be the main tendencies of Cane CapoVolto’s body of work, we
constructed an audio and video program that illustrates, in a
sufficiently open manner, [our] adopted political urgencies and
communicative strategies, to render them as penetrating, mimetic
and “asymmetrical” as possible. Perhaps “nothing is true”
but it’s possible to become aware of that only after “everything
has been allowed,” that is, once the spectacle is over. The seminar
is structured around six distinct, interconnected segments:
a) Street Angels with Virus (video, 1993, 9’)
b) The constitutionalized criminal (installation for two television
sets, 1995, 50’)
This installation led to the extreme consequences of the application
of the theories on persuasion, through processes of “cognitive
dissonance.” Faced with the simultaneous viewing of two
different documentaries that have the same off-camera commentary,
the spectator finds that, in certain cases, a documentary is
more plausible and precise when associated with a different
soundtrack.
c) Evil pop (video, 1997, 16’)
d) Fake radio commercials (audio)
The aesthetics and mechanics of the “Trojan Horse”: an alluring
and familiar packaging (the commercial) welcomes distorted
and, in a way, “useless” content. In this case, persuasion uses
merchandise (weapons, psychotropic drugs and therapy) and
non-existent companies.
e) The Pentagon TV commercials (video, 18’)
Condemn the actions of strategies of the Pentagon to create
indignation? Not at all. The equivalent to the homeopathic
method suggests, on the contrary, “being the Pentagon” and
recreating, exalting and exaggerating that which is latent.
f) Rock Radio (audio)
Two fake radio programs on rock’n’roll. The radio station broadcasting
them performs a “time-space” slip to become “Rock
Radio.” The stupidity and inexorable beauty of rock’n’roll speed
up a confrontation with degenerate contents, going over that
which Kenneth Anger depicted in his Scorpio Rising.”
