Da cosa deriva il nome Cane CapoVolto?
Il nome venne trovato per caso. Ma non è un caso che lui
abbia trovato noi. Alla prima riunione del gruppo, presenti
due su tre degli attuali membri, più un terzo personaggio
poi uscito immediatamente, una figurina con l’immagine
di un cane sottosopra con sotto scritto “cane capovolto”,
ci apparve alla domanda “…come ci chiameremo?”.
Solo in seguito ci siamo resi conto fino in fondo della verità
di quel nome… provate ad esempio a capovolgere la
parolina DOG in inglese …uno dei possibili giochi…
L’utilizzo del nome collettivo tende ad avvicinarvi ad una setta
o, come voi stessi affermate, ad una confraternita. Allo stesso
tempo vi mette in stretta relazione con le Avanguardie del ‘900.
È un modo per negare le proprie individualità nascondendosi in
una responsabilità comune? Oppure è il segno di una volontà di
spersonalizzare il più possibile un’operazione di contestazione
del sistema comunicativo e informativo?
Il senso del nome collettivo consiste nello stratificare le
singole personalità all’interno di un autore totale. È il rifiuto
del concetto di autore strettamente connesso alla personalità
dell’artista: noi componiamo in nome e per conto del
gruppo. È il “marchio” per il quale lavoriamo, e il prodotto
deve essere perfettamente riconoscibile anche se continuamente
in evoluzione sia per lo stile che per i contenuti.
L’aspirazione maggiore sarebbe che Cane CapoVolto ci
potesse sopravvivere…
Da cosa è indotta la necessità di riferire ad altri soggetti alcune
vostre dichiarazioni o addirittura l’invenzione totale di fatti e
personaggi di cui testimoniate l’esistenza?
Tale pratica è indotta dal motto “Nulla è vero. Tutto è Permesso”,
cioè dagli slittamenti Vero-falso-Vero all’interno
del rito della comunicazione. Basta leggere con attenzione
i messaggi che ci arrivano dai sistemi di comunicazione
per capire quanto questa tecnica sia di norma nei meccanismi
dell’informazione.
Nel corso di questi 13 anni di lavoro come si è trasformato il
gruppo?
In senso strettamente fisico ai due membri fondatori dopo
qualche anno si è aggiunto il terzo confratello, è giovane e
ha buone idee. Nel metodo, si può dire che non è cambiato
molto, uno scrive, uno gira, uno monta, uno fa le musiche,
l’altro rivede, un altro riprende, l’altro non fa il sito,
uno è stanco, l’altro lavora troppo…
Come è organizzato oggi? E in che modo vengono distribuiti i
compiti e le mansioni al suo interno?
Compiti e mansioni vengono scelti in maniera del tutto
libera e volontaria; la scelta di non lavorare tutti a tutti i
lavori e tutti a tutte le fasi dello stesso lavoro assicura un
respiro più ampio e problematico all’intera produzione.
Where does the name Cane CapoVolto [Upside Down
Dog] come from?
We found the name by coincidence, but it was no coincidence
that it found us. At the group’s first meeting, at which two of
the three current members were present, plus a third person
that left immediately, a figurine with the image of an upside
down dog appeared before us when we asked “…what are we
going to call ourselves?”; under which was written “upside
down dog.” Only afterwards did we fully realize the truth of
that name…. Try, for example, to invert the word DOG in
English…that’s just one possibility....
The use of a collective name tends to resemble a sect or,
as you yourselves say, a fraternity. At the same time, it
creates a direct relationship with the avant-garde of the
20th century. It is a way to deny your individuality, hiding
behind a shared responsibility? Or is it a sign of the
desire to de-personalize as much as possible an act of
contention against the systems of communication or
information?
The sense of a collective name lies in the stratification of individual
personalities within just one creator. It is a rejection of
the concept of the artist strictly connected to the artist’s personality:
we create in the name of and on behalf of the group.
It is the “brand” for which we work, and the product has to be
perfectly recognizable even though its style and content is in
continuous evolution. Our greatest aspiration is that Cane
CapoVolto survive….
Where does the need come from to attribute certain
statements of yours to others, or even to completely
invent facts and characters whose existence you attest
to?
This practice comes from the motto: “Nothing is true. Everything
is allowed.” That is, by the True-False-True slips and
slides within the rites of communication. It’s enough that one
reads the messages that arrive from the systems of communication
attentively to understand how this technique is the
norm in the mechanisms of information.
How has the group changed over the course of these
thirteen years of working together?
In the strictly physical sense, after a few years, a third fraternity
brother joined the two founding members: he’s young and
has good ideas. Essentially, not much has changed in our
method: one of us writes, one shoots, one edits, one composes
the music, the other has a look, yet another one of us doesn’t
design the site, one’s tired, another one works…
How is it organized today? And how are the tasks and
duties distributed within the group?
Tasks and duties are chosen in a completely free and voluntary
manner. The choice to not have everyone work on all of the
projects or on all the stages of a given project ensures a broad-
