Chapter 1 Overview
1. The Cisco uBR904 and Cisco uBR924 cable access routers have reached their end-of-life. These routers are being maintained
in their respective mainline trains but are not being updated with any new features.
Table 1-3 lists the major software features on the Cisco CMTS routers. See Chapter 2, “Cisco Cable
Modem Termination System Commands,” for the commands that configure, maintain, and troubleshoot
these features.
Feature Category Item
Administration Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP)
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) v2 / SNMPv3
Integrated Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) client
User Datagram Protocol (UDP)
Internet Protocol (IP) v4/v5
Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)
Domain Name System
Availability “Hot standby 1+1 redundancy” to configure components and their backups in case of
system failure; helps eliminate call drops in Voice over IP (VoIP) configurations
Message Digest 5 (MD5) for use with SNMPv2 & SNMP v3
Cable Interface Bundling and IP address conservation with routing capabilities over a two-way cable plant; supports
Subinterfaces
sharing one IP subnet across multiple cable interfaces grouped into a cable interface
bundle with support for bundle masters; can be used with Generic Routing
Encapsulation (GRE) tunnel setups and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
configurations
Note Feature sets differ in support of overlapping IP addresses for subinterfaces.
Caching Web Cache Control Protocol (WCCP) and Web Cache Control Protocol Version 2
(WCCPv2) support
Clock Synchronization Increased reliability for VoIP transmissions to synchronize vocoders with a clock source
and data transmissions between end points
Concatenation Increased upstream throughput by handling concatenated bursts of multiple Media
Access Control (MAC) frames from CMs that support concatenation
