4.3 Sample: Structure and Strategic Alignment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Participating Enterprises
The surveys sample comprises 947 enterprises. 828 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se enterprises answered <strong>the</strong> questions
regarding <strong>the</strong> sector <strong>the</strong>y are active in. In this context 287 enterprises (34.7%) stated that <strong>the</strong>y belong
to <strong>the</strong> production sector and 541 (65.3%) stated to be part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> service sector (see figure 1).

902 enterprises answered <strong>the</strong> question regarding <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> employees (see figure 2) and 893 <strong>the</strong>
question regarding <strong>the</strong> year in which <strong>the</strong> enterprise was established (see figure 3).

Of <strong>the</strong> 947 enterprises surveyed 795 enterprises stated <strong>the</strong>ir annual turnover (see figure 4). The
majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> companies participating in <strong>the</strong> survey (38.9%) quoted an annual turnover <strong>of</strong> up to 2
Mio. €. About one fifth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enterprises stated that <strong>the</strong>y have an annual turnover <strong>of</strong> more than 50
Mio. € (20.4%).
