Dynamic Data Mashups: are used by <strong>the</strong> PS development team to check narratives with
different perspectives. The PS development team can see, for example, how many stories have
come from a certain campus and <strong>the</strong>n drill down into a specific narrative and see what <strong>the</strong>
students have written, and hence make sense <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir experiences. All information in <strong>the</strong> data
mashup is being pulled from <strong>the</strong> Oracle database.

Dynamic Graphs: A dynamic chart is populated from <strong>the</strong> database giving a visual representation
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> stories that are coming from different campuses. This enables <strong>the</strong> management
and PS development team to determine which campuses are active and which are not. Therefore,
in order to get more responses <strong>the</strong>y can target campuses which are not contributing to <strong>the</strong>
network and/ or read <strong>the</strong> stories that are coming from <strong>the</strong>re to check if <strong>the</strong>re is some sort <strong>of</strong>
problem that is preventing sharing story narratives at that campus.
Mashups: The above-mentioned tools are integrated on a common platform. This enables <strong>the</strong>
stakeholders to access one webpage combining <strong>the</strong> two aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> system. So <strong>the</strong>
stakeholders are able to post <strong>the</strong>ir Blogs, comment on <strong>the</strong>m, tag <strong>the</strong>m and even rate <strong>the</strong>m with
<strong>the</strong> help <strong>of</strong> SMA. On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand <strong>the</strong> PS development team is able to use <strong>the</strong> set <strong>of</strong>
management tools provided for large-scale data collection.
As mentioned earlier <strong>the</strong>re is also a need for signal detectors in order to identify trends. For that
purpose <strong>the</strong> following technologies were used.
Tagging: allows two or more stakeholders in <strong>the</strong> same domain to share <strong>the</strong>ir experiences and
knowledge. For example a student with knowledge in a certain domain can tag topics related to
that domain and/or fellow students working in <strong>the</strong> same domain. So by following <strong>the</strong> pattern <strong>of</strong>
tagging SMA is enabling <strong>the</strong> indicators <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same domain to form a community <strong>of</strong> practice.
Word Cloud: enables <strong>the</strong> stakeholders to be aware <strong>of</strong> prominent keywords acknowledged or that
appear frequently during discussions. For example, if <strong>the</strong> students are not happy with <strong>the</strong> quality
<strong>of</strong> ‘food’ that is being provided at <strong>the</strong> university <strong>the</strong>y tend to use <strong>the</strong> term ‘food’ more and more in
<strong>the</strong>ir story narratives. The database is used to extract <strong>the</strong> count <strong>of</strong> such keywords and show it in a
grid view on <strong>the</strong> mashup.
Rating: helps prioritising <strong>the</strong> data and enables <strong>the</strong> stakeholders to be acquainted with <strong>the</strong>
importance <strong>of</strong> experiences and knowledge being shared. For example, if a stakeholder reads a
good write-up he/she can rate it so as to add to its credibility.
