3 Descriptions and Requirements<br />

3.1 Description<br />

The <strong>cifX</strong> <strong>Communication</strong> <strong>Interfaces</strong> <strong>Real</strong>-<strong>Time</strong> <strong>Ethernet</strong> are PC cards for<br />

<strong>Real</strong>-<strong>Time</strong> <strong>Ethernet</strong> communication. Depending of the loaded firmware, the<br />

protocol specific <strong>cifX</strong> <strong>Communication</strong> Interface proceeds the communication<br />

of the corresponding <strong>Real</strong>-<strong>Time</strong> <strong>Ethernet</strong> system.<br />

The following <strong>Real</strong>-<strong>Time</strong> <strong>Ethernet</strong> systems are used:<br />

• EtherCAT Master<br />

• EtherCAT Slave<br />

• EtherNet/IP Scanner (Master)<br />

• EtherNet/IP Adapter (Slave)<br />

• Open Modbus/TCP<br />

• Powerlink Controlled Node/Slave<br />

• PROFINET IO-RT-Controller<br />

• PROFINET IO-RT-Device<br />

• SERCOS III Master<br />

• SERCOS III Slave<br />

The <strong>cifX</strong> <strong>Communication</strong> <strong>Interfaces</strong> <strong>Real</strong>-<strong>Time</strong> <strong>Ethernet</strong> handles the<br />

complete data exchange between the connected <strong>Ethernet</strong> devices and the<br />

PC. The data exchange is proceeded via dual-port memory.<br />
